Caribbean Sports

Caribbean Sports are varied and mostly divided by the origin or colonizers of the different islands.

 

<b>Baseball</b>

 

The Spanish speaking countries like Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, due to the enormous influence from the neighbor up north, adore Baseball and the sport is deeply inside the culture of those countries. Many Great leagues’ players come from those countries. To mention a few, Orland0 “EL Duque’ Hernandez is from Cuba; the late Roberto Clemente from Puerto Rico and Sammy Sosa from the Dominican Republic.

 

<b>Soccer and Rugby</b>

 

The islands of British origin practice sports like football (soccer), and cricket. The British sport of Rugby is also very popular throughout the Caribbean Islands and there are many Caribbean Rugby Teams and even a West Indies Rugby Union. Tourists longing for a good Rugby game will find it easily in one of the Rugby Union countries.

Caribbean Snorkeling

 

The beautiful coral reefs around many of the islands are a heaven for the lovers of marine life.

 

Caribbean Scuba Diving

 

The more adventurous want to go deeper and discover the world many feet under the water. There are hundreds of Scuba shops in all islands providing equipment and instructions for the less experienced.

 

 

Caribbean Sailing

 

This is an important sport and also a mean of transportation between the islands. Some of them don’t even have an airport, so the only way to get to them is by boat.

 

All the islands have charter sailing companies providing services for a day or much longer. Some of those packages come with captain, cook and stewardesses. That is idyllic for Island Hopping on Caribbean Family Vacations, Honeymoons and more.

 

Surfing

 

Especially on the Atlantic Ocean coast of the islands, where the waters are rougher, surfing is King. Among Puerto Rico Beaches, the ones of Rincon in the west of the island have been compared with those of Maui of Hawaii, for the quality of the surfing waves.

 

And then there is sport that many prefer, sun tanning, swimming and just doing nothing.
