Best Diving Honduras
Anyone knows Bay Islands in Honduras?
I´ve heard its beatifull, you can dive and it has the second best coral places to dive. Also there are some ruins in another city.
The Bay Islands in Honduras are a set of three islands: Roatan, Utila and Guanaja. Roatan is the biggest and has the largest hotels. Utila is very small and everything is close by, there is just one main street and you can find everything there. Guanaja is the smallest and as far as I know it is not really inhabited.
As for diving Roatan and Utila are both full of dive shops and tours, the majority of them accredited by PADI and run by europeans or americans. So you have a lot of choices.
The diving is superb, really cristal clear water, water temp really comfortable, no need for wetsuit if you come from a really cold country. You can see whale sharks in Utila and turtles plus all the other reef fish that you find in the caribean. They have wrecks where you can see morey eels (hundreds of them). And really really beautiful corals. I have dived in Roatan only, but snorkeled a lot in Utila and it is truly beautiful and worth your while.
The only thing is there are a lot of sandbites (little mosquitoes) thet really make your life hell. What really helped me was pouring generous ammounts of baby oil on my body or anything with oil. And they did not bite anymore. (Something about the way insects breath)
The ruins you talk of are COPAN Ruins in the department of Copan in Honduras. From the islands to go to Copan, you need to take the ferry (45 min from Islands) or plane to La Ceiba (10 min flight) and from la Ceiba catch a bus to Copan (6 hour drive more or less). You have everything in Copan, english speaking guides, decent hotels, cool night life. Plus the ruins are wonderful.
