Tell me about the nightlife in New York. ?

I like going out drinking and partying, but I do not like the dance clubs with shitty music and ball boys cheese or muscle shirts in which every woman in the place has a mark of tramp. I like dives. The places with real atmosphere. Where you can drink a beer and talk with people on reality. My idea of a good time is listening to jazz or blues with a nice glass of the cockpit at 2:00 am instead of grinding against vagrants sweat at a nightclub. Now, it is obvious that New York City is as big as it should have an abundance of both. Are there areas of the city of New York that have more of one than the other?
