Clearance Diving

I’ve just failed RN Clearance Diver Officer selection- should I opt to be a diving rating instead?

Hi! Basically diving is my life and so I applied to be warfare officer, to then go and specialise in diving.

I’ve failed officer selection but I still really want to dive, so would it be ‘odd’ for me to go in as a rating instead? Would the recruitment office be a little hesitant in forwarding me for Diver rating selection?

I am 22 and a University graduate, so I know I’m not typical rating material, but I really would give it all I’ve got as it’s diving, and not the commission, that matters most to me.

What do you think? Any tips or advice? Thanks!

Mate if you join as a rating then you may go CW at a later date. No problem being a graduate and a rating – I’ve got 2 undergraduate degrees and joined as an AB – just dont make a big deal of it.
If your degree is in a science subject then have you considered engineering? A high percentage of engineering officers join as ratings – if diving is more important to you than the RN then I’d look elsewhere fella.
