Degree Of Difficulty Diving

has the scoring changed for diving since 2000?

i am a pretty good diver and i made it my goal to break my schools record for diving, until i realized the record was around 450. I didnt understand this because i thought you could only compete 10 dives, and with the highest degree of difficulty being around 3.0 that makes the highest possible score around 300, and in the 2008 olympics the highest score was only 400. The 450 record was set in 1999, so i was wondering if the scoring changed, and if not how many dives are you allowed to compete in a high school meet?

Championship meets you do 11 dives. It’s been that way as long as I’ve been paying attention (more than 30 years).

You can’t really compare diving scores from one environment to another (especially high school to Olympics). There tends to be “grade inflation” in high school competition. For example, an excellent high school diver may receive 9′s on a dive in a dual meet that would only get 6′s or 7′s in a more competitive environment. That’s probably why the high school score is so high compared to the Olympic score.
