Do Muslim women swim in their homelands?

Recently a Muslim woman was turned away from a Paris pool for wearing a head to toe garment in which she wanted to swim.

This sounds even more restricting than bathing costumes from the 1800′s used in places like Brighton.
Is this dress restriction why there are no Muslim women in the olympics competing in sports like swimming, diving, gymnastics?
Is this why we also see no Muslim men competing in these sports?

Of course they do.

Last summer, I was in Ashqelon, Israel (north of the Gaza Strip). Now, in Ashqelon, there is a close to equal amount of Palestinians and Israelis, with a slightly low number of Christians. My family and I went swimming in the Mediterranean and I saw all Muslim, Jew, and Christians swimming together, but I was most disgusted to see how the Palestinian men (NOT ALL) made or allowed their wives to swim with a complete cover. Now I am not only talking about the hijab, I mean completely (like when they look like ninja’s, with only their eyes showing), but it was their business, not mine, so I ignored it. But yes, Muslim women do indeed swim in their homeland.
