What are some good places to visit?

i live near nyc.
i have to kids;; 12 & 14
they are on vacation for spring break.
i am looking for a place to take them that isn’t far that wont include taking a plane and a dive no longer then 5 or 6 hours.
preferably not washington d.c. because we tend to go there almost every year.
