Diving and Snorkeling in Egypt?

We are looking to go on vacation this summer to Egpyt, the Red Sea (Marsa Alam) with the intent of a holiday relaxation on the beach, with the possibility of diving. I recently went to the Maldives, and loved as the coral reef was so close to the beach, which could simpy tube from the beach. I wonder however, there Egpyt fish and coral reefs close enough to the beach for swimming, or we have to go on a boat whenever he wanted see the fish?

Egypt is great, I suggest you get on a boat very nice to see fish, but there are plenty of fish in coral reefs
