Diving White Island
Great White Shark cage diving in Cape Town, where is the best place to go?
I am going to Cape Town early July and desperately want to go cage diving with Great White Sharks. I know Cape Town is the best place to do this but I wondered where is the best place in CT to do it is?? as there are various different places and companies to do it with.
I have seen the documentaries on Seal Island and it looks amazing, I would love to see the sharks breaching like that!! Is this the best place to see them??
Where is the best to see the big sharks and does anyone have any recommendations for good companies that do it??
There are many companies in South Africa that offer Great White Shark cage diving and there are a few good destinations to go to for great viewings.
The two companies listed on the previous replies are good companies to try.
Generally the tours last about 4 / 5 hours. You are taken out by boat to a good location for shark diving. Once at anchor the tour company will make every effort to lure the White Sharks in by chumming the water with a special mixture of sardines, tuna and shark livers. Once the sharks arrive you are usually given the opportunity to get into the cage to view them from as close as they will get, and while others have their turn you can photograph the sharks and excitement from the deck.
Some companies really try and extend the experience and try to entice the sharks into attacking decoys towed behind the boat – which makes for a fantastic photo opportunity.
Good areas for Shark viewing are:
Mossel Bay @ the vicinity of Seal Island.
Gansbaai
The famous “Airjaws” of False Bay
Do bear in mind that many people think that because of the increased activity of Shark Cage Diving that there are more attacks on surfers in the Cape waters.
