I need help identifying a bird you saw?

I was in central Ohio, and saw a bird I've never seen before (im from the midwest) was larger than a sparrow but smaller than a morning dove, who had long legs for a bird that looked like, and a head of black and white stripes, but only the head. and instead of leaping along like most birds, ran too fast! and his movement has not yet head forward and backward while walking as some birds do it too … help?
