Professional diving? Divers please answer?

I am looking into making that my career. I was wondering about the salary- can one live off it? Is it best to start out as a tourist guid diver- work for resorts, and eventually move on to bigger things? Can you give me any advice- and tell me your journey to where you are now as a professional diver, PLease?
I meant scuba diving!

To work as a professional diver you will need to start out as a Divemaster and work your way up. Divemasters are the like the guides you were asking about. They take out certified divers on local dives, and help instructors with classes. You can also work toward becoming an instructor while doing that job. To live off your salary then you will probably need to work at the dive shop as a salesman also until you get your instructor. Many resorts like their instructors to have multiple agency certifications (eg. PADI, NAUI, SSI etc.). Luckly once you reach your instructor level in one there are cross over programs so you don’t have to go through the whole work your way up stuff again. The instructors that I know make about 20-30 dollars per student, and the divemasters that work with me are all paid with free air and rental only.
Good luck to you.
