Cairns, Great Barrier Reef Vacation Question?

Hello!
im planning on visiting Cairns, Australia next december so i can see the beautiful great barrier reefs. Problem is i cant swim….no snorkeling or deep sea diving for me! My question is, are there still ways to explore and see the corals? Are there tourist glass bottom boats? Is it worth visiting if i cant swim??? Also would it be better to spend New Years there or in Sydney? Thanks for any help

New Years Eve in Sydney for sure Down at Darling harbour they always have a fantastic firework display off the harbour bridge. Cairns does have glass bottom boats .
