meet new people?

I am interested in meeting new people and basically I'm at a loss. I am very active in diving with a local club, but I am looking for a different social setting. I tried Gyms / Sports Centers, but it does not really do it for me and I'm not one to run in netball is, or hill walking up. Do not really want to take a class at night, like I did a lot of study in the diving and want a break from books. I am a bit stuck and am looking for suggestions

Go to your local sewing shop. Take a beginner class in quilting or clothing or what excites you. With Halloween coming, clothing would be natural. The ladies (and a few gentlemen), to take these classes and join clubs are mostly the nicest people ever want to meet.
