Scuba Diving Holiday – very special?

Hubby and I are planning on starting a family in August this year. Before we do we’re planning one last holiday together as a very very special treat. We both love warm/hotplaces and sunshine and would love to spend the week snorkelling and scuba diving. We’ve thought about maybe around the Greek islands, or maybe south africa but we really are just taking shots in the dark. Can anyone please suggest any good places/companies just any good details we can use.

All help is very very much appreciated.

Thank you xxx

I have been to Egypt (Red Sea) and it is good for snorkelling. Good coral, and quite alot of tropical fish. However, if you can find a good deal (you may be suprised what Long Haul deals can be found if you trawl the net) the best I have experienced is the Maldives. Much of the coral is bleached, but for the shear number and diversity of marine life it is awesome. All of your regular trops, invertebrates etc + reef sharks, turtles, we once even saw a whale shark from the house reef! On that note, if you do decide on the Maldives, do your research well. Make sure the island you choose has a house reef. This will mean you don’t need to get a boat out to the reef, which can be inconvenient. Imo it is far better to be able to swim out 50yds to it when you please! When we were in Malaysia there wasn’t a house reef and an hour in a boat was a pain.
Other good places include Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, although these are further afield.
It may also be best to atleast take your own snorkel and mask, and fins if possible, as they will fit you better and you will feel more comfortable
I would suggest investigating where you want to go before looking for deals. Only change your mind if it is way over budget (obviously!).

Ps: The value of the Euro would put me off the Greek Islands, plus there are no coral reefs there. Hardcore divers etc may disagree but I wouldn’t think South Africa would be very good for diving unless you like cold water and BIG sharks?!?!
