The crystal clear waters and brilliant white sandy beaches of the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia for many years have captured the hearts and imaginations of the backpackers and travelers that passes through. In recent years however have seen a different type of travelers coming to the Perhentian Islands, as his reputation as a top diving destination class has increased slowly from diving in the diving community.

In fact, it would be fair to say that a lot of the success of the Perhentian Islands as a place Diving must be attributed to neighboring Thailand and the dive centers on Koh Tao, Phuket and Koh Samui. Many travelers have learned to dive in the big tourist centers Thailand often find themselves gravitating to the natural beauty of the Perhentian Islands. For a last dip before the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur and Singapore!

The islands of Pulau Perhentian Kecil and Pulau Perhentian comprises Perhentian Besar and is located about 20 miles off the coast of Malaysia. Offering what can only be be described as a piece of paradise, palm trees tropical beaches around the islands, while the clear blue waters, a wealth of marine life and coral below.

Diving in the Perhentian Islands is a high level, and a wide range of dive sites has meant that the islands have become a popular destination for people looking to take a course diving. There are approximately ten major dive sites that are regularly visited by dive centers in the Perhentian Islands. Of these, Tokong Laut (Temple of the Sea) is widely recognized as the best dive site in the islands. An outcrop of large boulders near the northwest coast of Perhentian Kecil offers some of the best examples of formations soft coral in the region. This amazing carpet of soft coral provides a home to a variety of marine life, including Lambe, barracudas, sharks and sharks black tip.

For fans of wreck diving, there are two diving excellent sites in the Perhentian Islands. The sinking of Sugar, a 90 meter cargo ship which sank in 2000, and the wreck Vietnamese were still possible to dive in inside the wreck itself.

If you are planning to go diving in the Perhentian Islands, the best time to visit is between April to October, when both the visibility and weather are more favorable. November to March sees the station monsoons, when the weather becomes poor and access to and from the islands is limited due to rough seas.

The Perhentian Islands offer excellent diving, and nature surface dive sites here make a good choice for novice or more inexperienced scuba diver. But what makes the islands so very special is its beauty natural and undeveloped landscapes. It actually feels as if diving into your own piece of paradise!
