Diving in So Cal w / out certification?

When I go in Hawaii Open Water Scuba diving without certification. Is there anything like that available in southern California? I live in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles, Sand Diego, Orange County, including Baja California, Mexico would be acceptable locations. Any suggestions? I wanted to bring a friend for her birthday. I realize that you will need to give an instructor with us, and that would be ideal to have the certificate, but is short term. Any suggestions?

This seems to mean a Discover Scuba type of thing, which does not win the C-card. You dive with an instructor and a limited depth. Many stores offer this, just ask around the local shops.
