Used Diving Equipment
is a mercury 9.9 hp ouboart 4 stroke worth saving if you get it out the water over 24hrs of being submerged?
Right now we have to recover it tommoro because we have to use another boat to recover it and use dive equipment. Not to mention its like in 10- to 15 feet in a creek which they said they call it the black visibility. And we do have an idea where it is but do u think its worth trying? Thanks for your response. And how it came off dont know it just got loose somehow and motor just came off. we did hit a little sand but wasnt enough to loosen it that much…
Yep, it should be easy to get it running. Follow these steps, as soon as you can after raising it.
Drain the engine oil and replace the oil and filter.
Remove the fuel lines and filter, drain, and replace with a new filter.
Remove the flywheel and electrical box cover, use compressed air to dry components.
If you have electric start, remove the starter, disassemble, and dry with air.
Remove the carb, disassemble, and clean with carb cleaner and compressed air.
Remove the spark plug, and turn the motor over several times.
Replace spark plug with new, and install all other parts.
Prime up the engine, and start (with muffs on, of course).
Run for 20-30 mins at slightly above an idle (1500rpm)
Drain and change the engine oil and filter again.
That should about do it, I’ve recovered engines that have been down as long as 2 weeks, and had great success with this method. Good luck.
